What cargo-cover details should I confirm before shipping a 1688 order?
Ask what protection the quotation includes or offers separately, who provides it and which current terms apply to your shipment. Confirm the covered journey, goods, value basis, limits, excess and exclusions. Name the contact and party responsible for reporting a loss, then save the applicable notification and evidence requirements. Keep unanswered points open before approving transport.
Identify the protection named in the quote
DHL Global Forwarding’s UK page distinguishes limited transport liability from cargo insurance. Ask whether the proposed protection is carrier liability, a separate insurance arrangement or another form of cover. Record the provider or insurer, who arranges it and the terms version. Ask whether the document identifies this shipment or a period covering several shipments. Obtain the relevant policy or certificate reference where applicable. A general statement that goods are covered leaves these details unanswered.

Make the stock identifiable
Keep supplier order references, SKUs and expected carton counts together. The receiving team needs a record it can compare with the goods when they arrive.
Mark where the covered journey starts and ends
WorldFirst’s UK insurance article raises storage as a point to check. Ask the actual provider to identify the start and end events and the places covered. Show China collection, consolidation, storage, repacking, transfers and final UK delivery in the proposed plan. Request written answers about each relevant stage rather than assuming every movement is included. Keep the supplier’s delivery terms and the proposed cover in separate records.
Confirm the value basis and actual goods
Record the declared amount, currency and evidence used to support the value. Ask which costs the proposed basis includes, such as goods or freight, and how the limit, excess or any sub-limit applies. A declared amount does not establish the settlement for a future loss. WorldFirst’s article also prompts questions about goods and packing. Send the actual product description, quantities and final packing details, then ask how the current terms treat those goods, storage, packing and loss types. Ask specifically about delay if it matters to your stock plan.
Keep the provider’s answers with the shipment
Use this original worksheet to record the answer and its document reference. Identify the person obtaining any missing confirmation. Review the same goods, journey and quotation revision throughout; refresh the record when a material detail changes.
Scroll sideways if needed. Keyboard: focus the table area and use the left and right arrow keys.

Name the reporting contact before departure
Ask who is named under the arrangement, who may report a loss or make a claim, and who would receive any payment. Record the contact and accepted reporting channel. Obtain the applicable notification and document deadlines, including the event from which each is measured. Ask who will gather records from the supplier, carrier and receiving warehouse. Keep the procedure accessible to that person before the goods move. A supplier remedy and a transport claim need their own records.

Prepare for the final handover
Confirm the delivery address, receiving hours and booking instructions before dispatch. Add any pallet, label or unloading requirements to the same shipment brief.
Prepare the shipment-linked evidence
DHL’s UK Express article gives invoices or receipts, shipment tracking and damage photos as examples of supporting records. Ask the designated contact what the actual arrangement requires and whether further evidence or inspection is needed. Link each record to the shipment and affected cartons. Before disposal, repacking or other changes to damaged goods, ask about any retention or inspection instructions. If an incident occurs, use the agreed reporting process promptly and keep a dated record of what was sent and the response.
Include cover questions in the shipping brief
Send the goods description, final packing, shipment value and collection and delivery points. Identify any cover requirements so the quotation scope can be discussed and current terms requested from the provider named in the offer.
Questions before you order
Does a shipping price automatically include cargo insurance?
Check the quotation and applicable terms. Ask what protection is included or optional and who provides it. A carrier-liability provision and an insurance arrangement can have different terms; record the actual arrangement for your shipment.
Will the declared value be paid in full if goods are damaged?
The amount declared is one part of the record. Ask the provider to explain the value basis, limit, excess, exclusions and evidence requirements under the applicable terms. The declared figure alone does not establish a future settlement.
Is there one reporting deadline for every China-to-UK shipment?
Obtain the notification and document deadlines for the actual arrangement, how they are measured and the correct contact. Keep these instructions with the shipment record and use them promptly when reporting a problem.
